Oily Skin Ke Liye Skincare Routine: A 4-Step Guide for Pakistan's Weather

Oily Skin Ke Liye Skincare Routine: A 4-Step Guide for Pakistan's Weather

Oily skin is the most common skin type in Pakistan, and it is also the most over-treated. The instinct is to strip the oil away as aggressively as possible. That instinct is what keeps most people oily.

Pehle: skin oily hoti kyun hai?

Sebaceous glands produce sebum, which is normal and necessary — it keeps the barrier intact and skin protected. Production increases with:

  • Heat and humidity. Sebum production rises measurably with ambient temperature. This is why May to September is harder in Karachi and Lahore.
  • Hormones — particularly androgens, which is why oiliness often peaks in the teens and twenties.
  • Genetics — the biggest single factor, and not something a face wash changes.
  • Over-washing and harsh products. Strip the barrier, and the skin compensates by producing more oil. This is the vicious cycle almost everyone with oily skin is stuck in.

You cannot permanently "cure" oily skin. You can manage it well, and manage it comfortably.

The 4-step routine

Step 1 — Cleanse, twice a day. Not five times.

Use a gel or foaming cleanser with salicylic acid or a gentle surfactant base. Lukewarm water — hot water strips more oil, which triggers more oil.

Twice a day is the ceiling. Washing more often does not make you less oily; it makes your barrier weaker and your skin oilier. If your face feels tight and squeaky after washing, the cleanser is too harsh.

Options: Salicylic Acid Face Wash for breakout-prone skin, Activated Charcoal Face Wash for city pollution and general congestion.

Step 2 — Treat (the step that changes things)

Choose one active based on your main concern:

  • Breakouts and blackheads → 2% salicylic acid at night. See our Acne Control Serum.
  • Enlarged pores and texture → niacinamide, or a low-strength AHA a few nights a week. See the Pore Minimizer Serum.
  • Dullness and dark marks → vitamin C in the morning. See the Vitamin C Serum.

Pick one to start. Adding three actives at once is the fastest way to a damaged barrier.

Step 3 — Moisturise. Yes, you.

This is the step oily-skinned people skip, and skipping it is why their skin stays oily. Oil and hydration are not the same thing. You can be oily and dehydrated simultaneously — in fact it is extremely common, and dehydrated skin signals for more oil.

Look for: oil-free, non-comedogenic, gel or lightweight lotion, matte finish. Avoid heavy creams, mineral oil and thick occlusives in summer.

Our Oil-Free Moisturizer is built exactly for this.

Step 4 — Sunscreen, every single morning

Non-negotiable, and especially so in Pakistan. UV exposure here is high year-round. Sun damage worsens texture, deepens post-acne marks, and is the largest controllable cause of premature ageing.

For oily skin: SPF 30 or higher, gel or fluid texture, labelled non-comedogenic, matte finish. Apply as the last step, 15 minutes before going out. Reapply every 2–3 hours in direct sun.

See our SPF 60+ Sunblock.

Your full routine, written out

Morning: Cleanse → (optional vitamin C) → Oil-free moisturiser → Sunscreen

Night: Cleanse → Treatment active → Oil-free moisturiser

That is it. Four products in the morning, three at night. Anyone selling you a ten-step routine for oily skin in Pakistani summer is selling you products, not results.

Ye ghaltiyan chhor dein

  • Alcohol-heavy toners. Instant matte finish, rebound oil two hours later, damaged barrier over weeks.
  • Daily physical scrubbing. Micro-tears in the skin. Chemical exfoliation 2–3 times a week is gentler and more effective.
  • Blotting all day and reapplying powder. Manages the symptom, worsens congestion.
  • Skipping moisturiser. Covered above, and it is the biggest one.
  • Using a new product for four days and giving up. Skin turnover takes about 28 days. Judge nothing before eight weeks.

Mausam ke hisaab se

Summer (May–September): lighter gel textures, sunscreen reapplication matters more, you may need your treatment active slightly less often because you are sweating and cleansing more.

Winter (December–February): even oily skin gets dehydrated in Lahore's dry winter. You may need a slightly richer moisturiser. Do not stop sunscreen — UV does not take winter off.

FAQ

Oily skin ke liye kaun sa face wash best hai?

A gentle gel or foaming cleanser, ideally with salicylic acid if you also get breakouts. The key criterion is that your skin should feel clean but not tight afterwards.

Din mein kitni baar face wash karna chahiye?

Twice — morning and night. A third time only after heavy sweating or exercise.

Kya oily skin par sunscreen se pimples hote hain?

Not if it is a formula designed for oily skin. Choose gel or fluid textures marked non-comedogenic. The damage from skipping sunscreen is far greater than the risk.

Pore permanently choti ho sakti hain?

No. Pore size is largely genetic. What you can do is keep them clear of congestion and reduce oil, which makes them look considerably smaller. Any product claiming to permanently shrink pores is overstating.
