Best Moisturizer in Pakistan: How to Choose One for Your Skin Type
Short answer: the best moisturizer in Pakistan is the one that suits your skin type and your weather. Oily or acne-prone skin does best with an oil-free, lightweight gel or gel-cream. Dry skin needs a richer cream with ceramides or squalane, applied on slightly damp skin. Combination skin needs one light gel-cream, plus a richer layer on dry cheeks.
Search for the best moisturizer in Pakistan and you will get a list. What you will not get is the part that actually decides whether it works: your skin type, the weather where you live, and what else is already in your routine. A cream that feels perfect in Murree in January can feel like cling film in Karachi in June.
This guide is the checklist, not a ranking. Read it once and you will be able to judge any moisturizer on a shelf or a website — including ours.
A note before you start: EL TESSA makes the moisturizers and cleanser linked in this guide. The checklist works the same for any brand, so use it on ours and on the alternatives.
What does a moisturizer actually do?
Every decent moisturizer does three jobs in some combination:
- Humectants pull water into the upper layers of skin. Glycerin, hyaluronic acid, urea, panthenol.
- Emollients smooth the surface so skin feels soft and looks even. Squalane, fatty alcohols, plant oils.
- Occlusives slow water loss by sitting on top. Dimethicone, petrolatum, shea butter, beeswax.
Dry skin usually needs all three. Oily skin usually needs the first two and very little of the third. That single sentence explains most moisturizer disappointment in Pakistan — people with oily skin buy a formula built for dry skin because the packaging looked expensive, then conclude that moisturizer "does not suit them".
If your skin is oily or acne-prone
Oily skin still needs moisture. Stripping it with harsh washes and skipping cream is the reliable way to get skin that is both oily and flaky, because the barrier gets damaged and overproduces oil to compensate.
What to look for:
- The words oil-free, gel, gel-cream or lightweight on the front.
- Glycerin or hyaluronic acid high in the ingredient list.
- Niacinamide is a genuine bonus here — it supports the barrier and is one of the few ingredients with a real track record on oil and the look of pores.
- Non-comedogenic testing claimed on the label. It is not a legal standard anywhere, but a brand that bothers to say it has usually thought about the formula.
What to be careful with: heavy plant butters, coconut oil high in the list, and thick balm textures. None of these are evil, they are simply the wrong tool for oily skin in a hot climate.
Our own answer to this brief is the EL TESSA Oil Free Moisturizer for Oily Skin (see current price) — a lightweight daily cream meant to sit under sunscreen without adding shine. If you want the sun protection built in, the BB Cream with SPF 15 and niacinamide (see current price) does moisturiser, light coverage and some protection in one step.

If your skin is dry or tight
Dry skin is short on both water and lipids, so you want a richer texture and ingredients that rebuild the barrier: ceramides, squalane, fatty acids, cholesterol, shea. Applying the cream on slightly damp skin makes a measurable difference, because humectants then have water to grab (American Academy of Dermatology: tips for dry skin).
A common mistake in Pakistani winters is switching the cream but keeping a foaming, high-pH face wash. The wash undoes the cream every morning. If your face feels squeaky after cleansing, change the cleanser first — a cream or milk wash such as our Rice Milk Face Wash for Dry Skin (see current price) is the cheaper fix.

If your skin is combination
Combination skin is the most common type here and the most over-complicated. You do not need two moisturizers. Use one lightweight gel-cream everywhere, then add a slightly richer layer only on the cheeks or wherever tightness shows up. That is it.
If your main concern is dullness or dark spots
Then the moisturizer is not where the work happens — a serum is. Moisturizer is the step that keeps the barrier healthy so the active ingredient can do its job without irritation. If brightness is the goal, pair any suitable moisturizer with a vitamin C serum in the morning, and read our guide on how to choose a vitamin C serum first.
If you would rather have the brightening ingredients inside the cream itself, the Glow Cream with Vitamin C and Glutathione (see current price) is built for exactly that, and the Retinol Night Cream (see current price) handles the night side for texture and fine lines.

How much should a moisturizer cost?
"Best moisturizer in Pakistan under 500" is one of the most common searches, and it deserves an honest answer rather than a sales pitch.
A simple glycerin-based lotion genuinely moisturises, and for many people it is enough. What a basic lotion is unlikely to contain is meaningful niacinamide, ceramides or well-stabilised actives, so check the ingredient list for them if that is what you want.
Price alone does not tell you the result: above a point you are often paying for brand, packaging and imported logistics. Our Oil Free Moisturizer is listed at PKR 1,990 and our Glow Cream at PKR 2,890 (product pages, checked 11 October 2026). See current prices in our creams and moisturisers collection.
How can you tell if a moisturizer is working?
Give any new moisturizer two weeks before judging it, and change only one product at a time. Working looks like: no tightness after cleansing, less midday shine if you are oily, no flaking if you are dry, and makeup or sunscreen sitting evenly on top.
Not working looks like: stinging, small bumps appearing within days, or a greasy film that never absorbs. Stop, go back to your previous cream, and give skin a week before trying something else.
A note on patch testing
Patch-test on the inner forearm for 24 hours before putting any new product on your face. It costs you one evening and it is the only way to catch a reaction before it happens somewhere visible. If you have an ongoing skin condition or you are pregnant, speak to a dermatologist before adding active ingredients — this article is general guidance, not medical advice.

Frequently asked questions
Does oily skin really need a moisturizer?
Yes. Oil and water are different things, and oily skin can still be dehydrated. Skipping moisturizer usually makes oil production worse over time, not better. Use a lightweight, oil-free formula rather than skipping the step.
Can I use the same moisturizer in summer and winter?
You can, but most people in Pakistan are more comfortable moving to a lighter texture between roughly April and September and something richer in the colder months. The ingredient list matters more than the season, but texture preference genuinely changes.
Moisturizer before or after sunscreen?
Moisturizer first, then sunscreen, and give the moisturizer a minute to absorb. Sunscreen is the last skincare step in the morning, before makeup.

Is an expensive moisturizer better?
Not automatically. Above a certain point you are paying for packaging, fragrance and brand rather than performance. Read the first five ingredients — that is where most of the formula is.
How much moisturizer should I use?
Roughly a large pea to a small almond for the whole face. Using too little is a more common mistake than using too much, especially with gel-creams that absorb quickly.
